Babu’s Camp is situated in northeastern Tanzania, approximately two and a half hours southeast of Arusha by road or 40 minutes by air from Kilimanjaro airport. It lies entirely within the newly gazetted Mkomazi National Park, which covers an area of 3,700 sq.km.,sharing its northern border with Tsavo National Park in Kenya, making this the first transfrontier national park in East Africa.
Beautifully set among baobab and acacia trees, the six walk-in safari tents measure ten meters by four and a half meters and are comfortably furnished with a large wooden bed (or twin beds), wardrobe, changing area, safari chairs, and a writing desk. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with a flush toilet and hot shower.
The large bar/mess area is beautifully situated on an outcrop with spectacular views of the Dindira valley and on clear mornings all the way to Mount Kilimanjaro. There is a comfortable lounge area in the bar with the dining area being a separate entity. Below the mess area, is an evening sundowner spot that doubles as a fire pit.
Special attention has been paid to the aesthetic, both in the placement of the tents and the furnishings inside. The tent interiors reflect the land around them – soft earth tones, natural fabrics, stone, wood, and grass all used to create a peaceful, harmonious existence with nature.
In keeping with an environmentally friendly policy, each tent unit has a solar panel with a battery and inverter and all the bulbs are of the energy-saving type. Water for hot water showers is heated through a solar hot water system and is gravity fed to each tent. Cellphones can be charged through USB points. Cell service is available in most spots and in some places with some cellphone providers data is also available. The camp does not have WIFI.
